Schloss Schonborn Hattenheimer Pfaffenberg Riesling Kabinett 2005
|
|
This young off-dry $15 German Riesling Kabinett from the Rheingau sent my mouth off into
a dozen enjoyable yet conflicting areas; without the sweetness, I can only imagine the effect
of the abiding acidity. Citrus, green apple, white peach and pineapple promote themselves in a
mineral substrate, with some pleasant effervescence.
I needed not just food with this wine, but multiple courses, in fact multiple wines, yet I
assessed it a capella. I can feel its place in the scheme of things, however, and I want
to explore this vineyard further, I mean literally, scurrying about on those cliffs overlooking
the river.

Like many others, I remember less than memorable German wines from decades ago, but my mind is open now.
